VBS Outreach Tips

VBS is the number one outreach event for a church.  It has the potential to affect the eternal destiny of children and families in your community.  Every child a church reaches from the community is a connection to many other people.   One is never just one.

A church can have a great VBS, but is she doesn’t do outreach and get (lost and unchurched) kids there, it is of little value.  Here are a few outreach tips:

  • Tip #1-Print VBS t-shirts early and put the dates and times on them.   A VBS t-shirt is a great outreach tool only if your VBS info is on there.  Make them available early so VBS leaders and other adults in the church can begin to wear them out in public.  Your VBS info is best seen on the back of the shirt.
  • Tip #2-Have business cards printed with your VBS info on them.  A business card can be kept in a purse, wallet, pocket, and in the car.  They are much easier to handle than a paper flier.  Be sure to have them available to all church members to invite kids and families to VBS.  Some even like to sign their name on the back of the card.
  • Tip #3-Encourage church kids to invite their friends who do not attend any church to VBS.  Reward the kids with VBS “money” to spend in the VBS store.  If VBS money is given for other accomplishments, that minimizes the motivation for bringing a friend.
