Psalm 105 (select verses) questions

Warm up in pairs or small groups:  Psalm 105 makes several references to the wondrous works of the Lord.   Can you recall any of the Seven Wonders of the World?   If a book about the wonders the Lord has done in your life were written, what would be the title?

  1. Look in 105:6 to see who the psalmist is addressing. Can this psalm apply to believers today?
  2. Is there a difference in “giving thanks” and “giving thanks to the Lord”?   What is the opposite of giving thanks?   What does Romans 1:21ff tell  us about refusal to give thanks and what it leads to?   105:1
  3. What does call on the name of the Lord do for a person? Does it require a certain amount of humility?   105:1     See Romans 10:13
  4. Where were they to “proclaim his deeds”? How did Israel proclaim his deeds among the peoples?   How are we to do so today?   Does proclaim just refer to preaching?    105:1
  5. What does sing to the Lord require of a person? Does it require a certain amount of humility?   105:2
  6. What were they commanded to tell? 105:2
  7. What are some things people boast about and rejoice in? What did the psalmist tell people to boast and rejoice in?   105:3
  8. Is there a difference between seeking the hand and face of God? 105:4
  9. What three things where they told to remember? 105:5
  • Do the Lord’s judgments still govern the whole earth? 105:7
  • According to 105:10, was the Lord’s covenant to Abraham temporary or permanent?
  • What was the promise he made? 105:11
  • Do Genesis 13:4-5 and Joshua 17:14 shed more light on his promise?
  • What is the connection between 105:42 and 105:43? From where did the Lord bring his people out? What did he give them after he brought them out of Egypt?
  • How do you respond to a person who says that it was mean and cruel of the Lord to remove peoples from the lands they had worked or times he ordered the Israelites to kill men, women and children so they could take possession of their land? 105:44
